EKG telemetry provides unparalleled safety for countless critically ill and
recovering patients. In our own hospital we have seen the number of beds served
by EKG telemetry double every five years. Once found only in the cardiac care
unit, EKG telemetry can now be found on pulmonary, renal, medical, and surgical
units as well as in cardiac rehabilitation and emergency departments. At present
almost one out of every four beds at our hospital is designated for EKG
telemetry.
The acquisition and maintenance of EKG telemetry transmitters now represents
a necessary major investment for acute care hospitals. In our heart center we
became concerned by the frequency with which these expensive transmitters were
damaged, Droppage, food and beverage spills, contamination by body fluids,
wound drainage and even attempts by patients to bathe or shower kept many units
in the repair shop, at considerable expense, Of even greater concern was the
possibility that a contaminated transmitter might serve as a vehicle for the
spread of infection from one patient to another, The cloth and foam pouches
currently in use to allow patients to carry the transmitters provide no
protection and compound the problem of contamination.
These concerns led our group to develop the HartLine Protective Enclosure.
This shock and water resistant device made of impact absorbing, non-allergenic,
bacteriostatic plastic provides complete protection for the telemetry
transmitter while at the same time guarding the patient against the risk of
cross-contamination from previous users of the transmitter. The HartLine
Enclosure is comfortable and even permits the patient to shower while wearing
the monitor.
EKG telemetry protects thousands of patients every day. Protect your
telemetry monitors with the HartLine Protective Enclosure.
